Here are some things to expect at each age well visit:

3 Years

Physical exam

  • Weight and growth measurements
  • Blood pressure obtained
  • Go check-Vision and Ocular screening
  • Developmental Surveillance

Developmental Milestones

  •  Stacks 6 small blocks
  •  Pretend play, such as playing house or school
  •  Toilet trained during the day
  •  Throws a ball overhand
  •  Has a conversation with 2 or 3 sentences together
  •  Draws a person with 2 body parts
  •  Balances on each foot
  •  Knows the name and use of cup, spoon, ball, and crayon
  •  Can help take care of himself by feeding and dressing
  •  Copies a circle
  •  Usually understandable
  •  Names a friend
  •  Walks up the stairs switching feet
  •  Identifies herself as a girl or boy

4 Years

Physical exam

  • Weight and growth measurements
  • Blood pressure obtained
  • Visual Acuity assessed
  • Hearing test

Vaccines

  • Dtap-IPV: combined into one injection
  • MMRV

Developmental Milestones

  •  Builds a tower of 8 small blocks
  •  Hops on 1 foot
  •  Knows her name, age, and whether she is a boy or girl
  •  Copies a cross
  •  Draws a person with 3 parts
  •  Plays board or card games
  •  Can balance on each foot
  •  Dresses herself, including buttons
  •  Other people can understand what he is saying
  •  Names 4 colors
  •  Plays pretend by himself and with others
  •  Brushes own teeth

5 Years

Physical exam

  • Weight and growth measurements/BMI
  • Vision screening
  • Blood pressure screening
  • Hearing tests
  • Developmental surveillance

Vaccines

  • No routine immunizations due during this time, except for annual flu vaccine which is recommended

Developmental Milestones

  •  Listens well and follows simple instructions
  •  Draws a person with 6 body parts
  •  Balances on 1 foot
  •  Can tell a story with full sentences
  •  Copies squares, triangles
  •  Hops, skips, climbs
  •  Counts to 10
  •  Writes some letters and numbers
  •  Ties a knot

6 Years

Physical exam

  • Weight and growth measurements/BMI
  • Vision screening
  • Blood pressure screening
  • Hearing tests
  • Developmental surveillance

Vaccines

  • No routine immunizations due during this time, except for annual flu vaccine which is recommended
